Title tags and meta descriptions are used as the headline and summary for a search engine results page (SERP). They are important because they tell a web user, and also the search engine being used, what a specific web page is all about. The title tag is exactly what it sounds like, the piece of information that identifies the title of the web page. The meta description is important because it gives a short summary of the content on the page and will show up under the title tag that comes up in the web search results. Both the title tag and the meta description will be in the header section of the HTML code of your website. The title tag also shows up at the top of your web browser to indicate which page you are on in that particular tab.
By writing good titles and descriptions for your website you improve the experience of the user and more easily encourage users to click through your website from what they see in the search engine results. At the same time, it helps to show the search engine that your content is relevant and compelling.
