Linkedin is an underused and misunderstood social media platform.  Many people believe it is just for people looking for a job, but it is much more than that.  LinkedIn is a way to connect with other businesses who may be interested in your products or services or who you might wish to work this yourself.

The first thing people see is your LinkedIn profile, so you need to get this right to impress potential suppliers or customers.

Your profile photo should be clear with an uncluttered background but you need to smile.  This isn’t a passport or driving licence photo.

Your profile header image is your first advertisement, so make sure it tells people about you and what you do or sell.

Reach out and make a few connections by starting with your existing network for example suppliers, colleagues and ex-colleagues with who you worked closely.  Then make some new connections. Make your connection request personal, who are you and why do you want to connect.
